About Us
‘African Atlantic Lives and Visual Culture’ is a new network —launched in 2024-25— that seeks to build research community, foster dialogue and advance knowledge of visual cultures of and in the African Atlantic. AALVC’s interdisciplinary focus on visual culture brings together participants from film and screen studies, art history, print culture, and stage and performance studies backgrounds. The term ‘African Atlantic’ is intended to open up research conversations spanning multiple experiences and regions (in the Americas, Africa, Europe).
